Over Three Centuries of Italian Weaving
With a documented lineage reaching back to 1663 commencing with the historic quinternetto delle taglie recording a sale of fine grey cloth to the Duke of Savoy Vitale Barberis Canonico (VBC) represents over three and a half centuries of continuous Italian weaving mastery.
Initially anchored in guarded ancestral dyeing traditions, the house modernized during the industrial revolution under Giuseppe Barberis Canonico, centralizing complete vertical operations spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing at its landmark Pratrivero mill in the Biella foothills.
A Tradition of Continuous Innovation
By the turn of the twentieth century, powered by early electrification and continuous mechanical innovation, the mill’s celebrated woollens were exported across the globe.
Officially taking the name Vitale Barberis Canonico in 1936, the family-led enterprise scaled internationally under Alberto and Luciano, coupling progressive manufacturing technology with an uncompromising commitment to cloth quality.
A Family-Led Enterprise
Today, stewarded by Alessandro, Francesco, and Lucia, the house is a proud member of Les Hénokiens, the elite global association of bicentenary family businesses.
