A Heritage of Fine Linen
Founded in 1874 by Michele Solbiati in Busto Arsizio, Solbiati initially built its reputation crafting durable workwear textiles, including fine velvets and heavy brushed cottons in Lonate Pozzolo.
Under his son Leopoldo, the family enterprise transitioned into a fully fledged clothing firm, and by the 1930s Peppino Solbiati expanded international exports across Europe, India, and North Africa while introducing innovative textile processing.
The Move Towards Fine Linen
The definitive turning point arrived during the cotton crisis of the 1960s, when Vittorio Solbiati made the visionary decision to pivot entirely toward fine linen. By introducing refined palettes and sophisticated patterns previously reserved only for wool and cotton, Solbiati revolutionized the textile industry, becoming one of the world’s most distinguished vertical linen producers, adorned by an iconic logo designed by Bruno Munari, and eventually joining the prestigious Loro Piana family.
The Finest European Flax
