From Wellington to Tonedale Mill
The young Thomas Fox revolutionized the business following his return from studying the woollen trade abroad, eventually relocating production in 1796 to the historic Tonedale Mill alongside the River Tone to harness water and steam power.
At its manufacturing peak, the firm employed around 5,000 artisans and notably supplied 8,000 miles of rugged khaki cloth during the First World War, alongside earning prestigious accolades such as the Queen’s Award in 1966.
